Firstly we should qualify what we mean by 'handmade soap,' when you go to your local supermarket you have a bewildering array of soaps available which can be called anything from deodorant soap to body bars, body washes and even beauty bars. The majority of these products contain a heady cocktail of chemicals which are designed to imitate the effects of soaps whilst keeping production costs as low as possible. These are not handmade soaps.
Handmade soap is 100% natural, contains no chemicals and should clearly display this information. There are so many different types of soap available both in store and online that the choice can sometimes be overwhelming. When you are looking to buy your next bar of soap, whether it is to keep your bathroom smelling nice, to use on your body in the shower or to use as part of a skin care regime here are some of the reasons why you should choose handmade soap, even if it does cost more.
When a soap is made using an entirely natural process and ingredients one of the by products of this is the production of glycerin which is completely natural and should be in all soap. Any soap which is made 'from scratch' will contain glycerin and it is this key ingredient which will keep your skin feeling fresh and moisturised after use rather than the dry and tight feeling you can get after using commercially produced soaps. Softer skin after every bath or shower is a good place to start!
Great for your face
A cleanser and moisturiser is a part of any sensible skin care regime and we all use them. A bar of handmade soap will contain a combination of natural ingredients such as oils, butters, vitamins and moisturisers these ingredients allow the soap to initially cleanse your skin from all the grease and dirt your skin collects during the day and then to moisturise and refresh your skin. Making them an excellent addition to your skin care regime and even making them suitable to be used on your face.
Won't irritate your skin
Everyones skin is different and their a wide range of skin conditions out there which can affect people in a variety of ways. Each skin condition must be treated individually and there is no one-size-fits-all solution to repairing damaged skin, but one thing that will almost certainly not help is by using chemical based ingredient on your skin which can irritate and inflame any existing skin conditions. Whilst they are not guaranteed to heal skin conditions handmade soaps, due to their natural ingredients will be very unlikely to irritate your skin and worsen any inflammations.
Good for the Environment
As we start to see more and more of the effects that we are having on the environment it is becoming more and more important that we consider what we are buying and any impact that it may have on the environment. Commercially produced soaps are more likely to have been made using harsh chemicals which can harm the environments and they are also more likely to come in plastic packaging which can create more problems as our plastic footprint increases. Handmade soaps are almost always made by small companies which are passionate about using natural processes to work with nature to produce great products and you can be confident that you are making sensible consumer choices.
Last but by no means least the potential for variety with handmade soaps is unlimited! Any colour, design or scent is achievable and there is such an amazing variety of choice out there that your bathroom can be filled with as many incredible colours and scents as you can handle.
